Ukhimath is a town and Hindu pilgrimage destination in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. It is perched at altitude of 1311 mtrs above sea level. It is the home of Kedarnath and Madhyamaheshwar, during winters; the idol of both temples (Kedarnath and Madhyamaheshwar) brought up here in Ukhimath and worshiped here for six months. The deities from Kedarnath brought up here on the occasion of Diwali and Madhyamaheshwar on the last November week and taken back at their original places on the starting of Chardham Yatra. There are numerous ancient temples which are devoted to several gods of Hindu religion such as Shiva, Parvati, Usha, Anirudh, Mandhata etc.

History of Ukhimath: According to ancient legends and hindu mythology, the wedding of Anirudh(Grandson of Lord Krishna) and Usha (Daughter of Banasur) was Held here. The name of this place "Ukhimath" was named after daughter of banasur Usha, it was known as "Ushamtha" for several years then the name renewed to Ukhimath. It is also said that the king Mandhata left his kingdom and came here at Ukhimath and penance here for more than 12 years and one day lord Shiva appeared here at the form of sound (OM) and blessed him after that this place was being called as Omkareshwar.

It also offers the scenic and panoramic view of snow-capped Himalayas. This place is also a base for several pilgrims visiting tourist destinations such as; Tungnath, Deoria tal, Madhyamaheshwar etc. this place has several sightseeing and places where you can cherish the vivid views of the peaks of Kedarnath, Neelkanth, Mana parbat, Nanda devi and Chaukhambha and Omkareshwar temple.

Omkareshwar temple: Om kareshwar temple is the chief attraction for pilgrims. Several devotees come here to visit and take blessings of Lord Shiva during every year of winter season.

Deoria tal: It is the lake of crystal clear water, which is located at a distance of 14 kms away to Ukhimath. It also has enthusiastic trekking trials.

Tungnath: Tungnath is situated at a distance of 29 km away to Ukhimath. It is one of the great religious places to visit. It is located at an altitude of 3470 mts above sea level. Devotees come here from several destinations to visit and take blessings of Lord Shiva.

Rudraprayag: Rudraprayag is one of the panch prayags. It is situated at a distance of 44 kms away to Ukhimath. It is one of the best tourist destinations to visit in Uttarakhand. Rudraprayag is nestled at the confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini Rivers.

Trekking: This place (Ukhimath) has several trekking sites to reach Tungantha and to other pilgrims.
