Madhmaheshwar or Madhyamaheshwar, this lord Shiva devoted temple is also a part of Panch kedar. And it is nestled at an altitude of 3497 mts above sea level in Goundar village of the Uttarakhand state. Madhmaheshwar is the fourth temple to be visited in Panch Kedar Circuit. The other temples in Panch kedar circuit are Kedarnath, Tungnath, Rudranath and Kalpeshwar. Kalpeshwar temple is to be visited after Madhmaheshwar. This lord Shiva’s temple is believed to be built by Pandavas, the heroes of epic Mahabharata. With the beauty of sky-crapping trees and peaks and the unspoiled beauty, Madhmaheshwar offers some of the best scenic and charming views of Garhwal valley. Mythology of Madhmaheshwar

According to Hindu mythology, the heroes of Mahabharata, Pandavas want to meet lord Shiva to atone their sins but lord Shiva was so annoyed with them and didn’t want to meet them, then he formed in a bull and gets hid himself in Guptkashi. But Pandavas find him and tried to hold him forcefully, but the bull jumped and disappeared and reappeared on 5 different places, which places are called Panch kedar. Madhmaheshwar is the fourth one among Panch kedar. Here, lord Shiva’s navel appeared and that’s why this temple is called “Madhyamaheshwar”.

Kanchani tal: This ice glacier lake is one of the high-altitude lakes of India. This lake is elevated at 4200 mts above sea level. It is around 16 km away to Madhmaheshwar.

Kedarnath temple: Kedarnath is also a part of Panch kedar, it is situated around 19 km away to Madhmaheshwar. It is the most visited Shiva temple of Uttarakhand.

By Rail: There are not any railway station in Madhmaheshwar or Ukhimath. The closest railway station to Madhmaheshwar is Haridwar railway station at a distance of 204 km away, buses and cabs are easily for Ukhimath.

By Air: The nearest airport to Madhmaheshwar is Jolly grant airport of Dehradun at a distance of 222 km away from Ukhimath. One can take Public transports or private rental cabs to reach Ukhimath.

Weather at Madhmaheshwar

Summer: The summer starts here in May and lasts till August during these months the season of madhmaheshwar region stays warm and delightful with the temperature range of 20 to 300C. Days remain little bit warm but nights can be cold.

Monsoon: In monsoon months the region of Madhmaheshwar witness some moderate and occasional rainfalls but monsoon season is not ideal time to visit this region., because of the rainfall trekking route became slippery and tough to trek.
